Life in a Jar: The Irena Sendler Project
A brilliantly written holocaust history book, describing Irena Sendler and the brave jewish resistance fighters to save children from the holocaust, written not without overly gorey detail the simple facts are tere and they hit my heart. The book follows the story of school children researching a history project and finding about Irene, and we read of her story. At the end the students meet her and visit where the events took place. This is a factual, yet touching book that makes you think, and recognise the unsung, heros who put themselves at risk. This is history that many try to hide, some try to ignore yet we should not forget the horror of what happened. In Irenas words 'My greatest fear is that after the last surviver is gone, memory of the Holocaust will disappear.... It has been my great sorrow to live a long life knowing that when I am gone rememberance might be extinguished' The world needs many more good people like Irene. Its easy to read and absorbing and from this boo I hope the story will never be forgot.
