It's OK, but not worth paying full price.,
This review is from: Russell Hobbs 14590 Stylis Kettle, 1.7 L - Black Gloss (Kitchen & Home)
I bought this kettle 13 months ago.
The kettle was on a half price offer and I thought I had a bargain - it looked nice, boiled quickly and not too noisy either.
Yes, the water did taste really bad for a couple of weeks and even now, if I don't use the water straight away I can still taste a slight plastic/chemical hint.
After using for about 8 months the lid started to get a bit stiff and I had to hit it in order to get it shut. I could live with that until about a week ago when
it also became really difficult to open and finally, this morning it broke off completely!
I am more disappointed to have to be adding this to landfill than spend money on another kettle. I have lost faith in the brand; I won't necessarily be buying
Russell Hobbs again.

Same problem with mine, we are victims of a throw-away world, RH couldn't care less about the adverse comments, plenty of cheap kettles to send out as replacements. Just try to find a better quality make - very difficult!Russell Hobbs 14590 Stylis Kettle,1.7 Litre Capacity in Black Gloss

The same thing has just happened to mine today. The top has not come off but does not shut anymore at all - after being difficult to shut for a couple of months. - and the stainless steel effect has started to bubble - so dissappointing - as not that cheap as I recall!

Again, same thing happened to mine - the lid won't shut properly so now the kitchen fills with steam when I use it. It also leaks. Total waste of money for what looked like a really nice kettle. Very unimpressed Russell Hobbs!

I agree with all of the above. The lid will not shut properly any more and I have to bnag it shut; no doubt the next stage is it will fail completely, if everyone else's experience is anything to go by. It boils and boils before turning off, to the extent I get fed up waiting! I will not buy this kettle again, even though I have been an avid Russell Hobbs fan in the past. I shall opt for a cheaper make as they seem to get better reviews and of course, do not cost so much to buy.

I did manage to make do for a few more weeks by only filling it through the spout. In the end I gave up and bought an £8 steel kettle from ASDA which has prooved brilliant!

I bought Russell Hobbs 14590 1.7 L Stylis Kettle in Black Gloss Classic Design and initially liked it but I have the same dissapointed comment. In just over a year the button stuck so I had to bash the button to get it open to clean the filter even having to prise it open with a fork handle sometimes so R H make is now OUT for me I am now looking for a kettle with a different design.

I have to agree. Mine was brilliant at first, then the filter in the spout broke away, then the button to open the lid became stiff and eventually did not work at all. Finally, after months of filling through the spout, it exploded with a loud bang yesterday!
