This review is from: Skin Secrets: How to Have Naturally Healthy Beautiful Skin (Hardcover)
I really enjoyed Liz Earle's Skin Secret. It's beautifully illustrated and packed with useful information.

What I like about this book is that she doesn't seem to try to sell her own products, but seems genuine in sharing tips about gaining beautiful skin at every stage in life (there are specific sections devoted to beautiful skin at teens, 20s, 30s etc).

Her overall philosophy of beautiful skin is to use natural products, eat well and exercise. The books then gives specific tips on how to achieve that. The style is approachable and full of personal anecdotes. It's refreshing from cosmetics advertising that tries to convince us that one product is the magic cure-all.

Personally I had really bad acne when I bought this book. The section on acne helped me identify the cause and reduced it significantly. The section on natural oils also helped me identify oils to use to moisturise acne-prone skin and reduce acne scars. My face is now almost completely cleared up thanks to this book.

For those who are interested in better skin through the natural way I also recommend 'No more dirty look' which I also wrote a review about.

Bo says:
Hi! Was your acne hormonal by any chance? I'm looking for help with hormonal acne and I wondered if this book provided that.

In reply to an earlier post on 16 Mar 2011 11:25:19 GMT
Hi Bo, my acne was partially hormonal but also partially caused by congestion from using too many products that are unnatural and probably toxic to the skin. The book gives some but not much specific information on hormonal acne, but it gives information on caring the skin in the natural way, like how to moisture acne-prone skin, what helps with scars. I really do think it's a wonderful book and you might find that your acne isn't completely hormonal and just by switching to some natural products it would help over the long-term.
Hope that helps and Good luck!
