Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: TomTom Via 130 EU GPS Unit (Electronics)
I ordered this Sat Nav to replace my stolen Tom Tom one. I bought it because of the £20 fuel cash back offer. I complied with the terms of the offer and received an e mail informing me that my cash back claim was being processed; since then nothing. When I contacted Tom Tom to ask where my £20 was they replied that my claim hadn't been validated because the petrol receipt scan was incomplete. It looks ok to me and I still have the original receipts. Nevertheless they say the claim can't be processed as the promotion has finished. They didn't contact me to say there was a problem and this seems like sharp practice to me.
As to the Tom Tom Via; its not as user friendly as my old Tom Tom one, its slow to start up and frankly hasn't proved reliable. I think this may be because of the intelligent route (IQ Route ) software. Its taken me down some very strange roads, in my opinion quite unnecessarily. In addition I find that if I plan a route and then leave it a while before departing, the device turns itself off and erases all the planning, forcing a re-start, what a time waste.
Frankly I wish I'd never seen it and wouldn't buy another of their products at any price. I don't think they are an ethical company.

You can change the settings so that it remembers your planned route when you switch off and on; and you can also switch the IQ routes off if you think they're a problem! And sorry to hear that you've been messed about with the cashback offer - I had no problems receiving the lifetime maps promotion...

I think this post is from someone who works for TomTom. I did get my cash back in the end (last week)with no apology and I am left feeling disenchanted with Tom Tom. I won't buy another product from them. I know you can turn off IQ routes but the alternatives are worse and if you don't start your planned route before turning off the Via you lose it.
