Great Netbook, only one problem!,
This review is from: Acer Aspire One 522 10.1 inch Netbook (AMD Dual-Core Processor C-50, 1 GB RAM , 250 GB HDD, Windows 7 Starter 32-bit, up to 6 hours battery life) - Black (Personal Computers)
For all those stupid reviewers who always end up by saying "It won't play games or edit video", this netbook won't either, but people don't buy netbooks for that.
This Acer 522 has one of the latest AMD cpu's c-50 with integrated graphics chip. Its only a 1ghz processor but it is dual core and has an inbuilt Radeon HD6250 graphics chip. What this means in simple terms is it will play 720p HD video, Has a HDMI output port and has a standard screen resolution of 1280X720 (usually only found on 11.6 - 15.6 displays).
This is what sets this netbook out from the competition. The screen is excellent, being clear and crisp and even better with higher resolution.
It comes loaded with windows 7 starter. Many people say an upgrade is a must, but I find windows starter fine. Really, unless you you cant live without changing your desktop wallpaper or windows media centre, starter is fine.
The keyboard is as good as any with near full size keys and a light touch.
Track pad is large with a nice matt feel and large single button.
It set up with no hassle at all and picked up my wifi instantly.
Now the problem! Its a universal problem with netbooks that I think is partly due to microsoft requiring that windows starter only ships with 1Gb ram installed.
1GB of ram is simply not enough. The Graphics cpu takes 256mb so you only have a usable 744mb. The first thing you have to do is upgrade the ram to 2GB, then everything runs much smoother.
The upgrade requires the keyboard be removed but don't be put off by this, its only 5 clips. There are some excellent video's on youtube showing how its done, but it really is a must. If the unit shipped with 2GB of ram it would get 5 stars.
If you want a fast 10" netbook with a great screen and better resolution than most netbooks, a HDMI port and video play, at a good price, you could do alot worse than this!

Hello, I would like to use this computer in USA. Can I do it without any adaptor? Which is the Voltage required? Thanks

There is a Multi headed plug on the mains adaptor but i don't think there is a USA head, so you will probably need an adaptor. These are common in shops. The mains adaptor is 240 or 110 voltage operation

"What this means in simple terms is it will play 720p HD video".
I have one, as well as a drift HD Ghost camera. I can categorically say that this netbook (with the 2GB ram upgrade as I have) DOES NOT play 720p HD video, because I've just tried it.
