Not Good In Any Way, Shape or Form,
This review is from: Burton and Taylor [DVD] (DVD)
I would rather have watched the Lindsay Lohan version for comedic value, but the beeb is probably too snooty to put that one on... Perhaps it will appear on 5 or 5* at some point... I turned this horrendous version off after only 30 minutes... Not only was it dull as dishwater, it was cringeworthy and the acting felt like pantomime - and that was while they were off stage! i dont understand it as both these actors are normally terrific, but the ridiculous make up, helen's faux paunch, and dominic's over-booming accent were just too distracting to be remotely convincing or engaging. Sure it's hard to impersonate other actors - much harder than bringing a fictional character to life - but this is no excuse for this pathetic attempt at a biopic. needless to say i wont be tuning in for any more tooth-pulling agony.

Neil K. Jenkins says:
What sort of reviewer would write a review based on something seen for only thirty minutes of viewing and before the DVD release ? It would be a good idea to cancel this review - looking at other efforts this reviewer has submitted she should think very seriously about writing any more.

Dear Mr Jenkins: thank you so much for critiquing my reviews! How very kind of you. However, if you want to make a valuable contribution to the Amazon community, I STRONGLY suggest you stick to writing reviews of actual products, rather than writing reviews of reviews. Thanks for listening, and have a great day! (obviously you wont because you are a very sad, miserable individual).

Ian Armer says:
It was bloody awful. In fact, it was exactly the sort of thing Burton and Taylor would have appeared in for the money.

Thank you, Ian. Life's too short to watch bad TV!

Mr. Kevin Simpson says:
It was bad, but doesn't Helena Bonham Carter "scrub up" & look great with a bit of make up on, makes a change from the Tim Burton school of fashion.

dont know i didn't get past the first 30 mins as i said... she was a stunner when she was younger though, i'll never forget her as Ophelia in Hamlet - only great actors can make you remember performances from 15 years ago. shame her turn as liz wasn't one of them.

Having read your review, I'd quite like to watch this! A booming-voiced, over-theatrical drunkard is always worth laugh.

Go for it. Let me know if you think I've been too harsh ;)
