This review is from: The Lance Armstrong Performance Program (Paperback)
When i book this book id been cycling for years but never really that seriously, id never used a heart monitor and never used clipless pedals before. After a good read I took in some of the advice, i got a heart monitor and soon realised that most of my workouts were way too intensive, and using the clipless pedals correctly was like learning to ride a bike all over. There is a lot of good advice in there for the newbie rider who is serious about seeing what they can get out of their body and bike. After a while you realise that its by no means a comprihensive manual but there is alot of stuff in there such as adive on nutrition, pedaling mechanics, bits of bike maintainance, mental attitude, off season training and loads more. It kick started me into a whole new world of cycling and id recommmend it for anyone who wants to get serious on the bike.
I also noticed after reading the whole thing you get an idea of the importance of training and how if done correctly can improve an athlete many many times over. It shows that a guy like lance, even before he was hit by cancer, doesnt just jump on a bike and start winning races, it takes time, effort and commitment, there are always improvements that can be made and compromises that must be made. I think this book is chris carmichaels glimpse into some of the things that made lance armstrong a better cyclist and they can work for everyone who is willing to put them into practice.
