This review is from: Beachhead Assault: The Story of the Royal Navy Commandos of World War II (Paperback)
I have been interested in the wartime exploits of RN Commandos because my step father received a DSM for his actions on Sword Beach during the D-Day landings on 6th June 1944. Unfortunately he passed away some years ago before I had time to ask him about the details of his experiences (although I doubt whether he would divulge too much anyway - a common trait for those individuals who have been decorated for bravery). This book gave me an invaluable insight into the exploits of those extremely brave men whose courage and devotion to duty paved the way for all the major beach assault landings of WW2. Not as well documented as their more illustrious counterparts, the Royal Marine Commandos but every bit as essential as their work saved countless lives of the main assault forces that followed them.
