This review is from: Nasher Says Relax (Paperback)
Having read many musical bios over the years, I didn't know what to expect with this one. The history of the band was rather an enigma, with rumours of trouble and strife, wars with record labels and internal band members. The band themselves pretty much, to the general masses, came out of nowhere, and their longevity within the music business as a 5-piece was painfully short. But even knowing that, the impact they made on music as a whole during that era (and to this day) was refreshing, timeless and, in the main, genius.
How refreshing therefore to get the TRUE facts about this great 80s band. It's written with honesty, sadness and a whole heap of full-on belly laughs. Even if you're not a Frankie fan, this book is a must for any budding musician wanting to get into the business, revealing it's pitfalls and potential traps and the consequences paid (and still paying!). A lot of "wow I never knew THAT" moments, and a great insight into Brian's life both within the band and with his various solo projects.
Brian truly does tell it like it is. No diplomacy here - which is what makes for a truly great read.
Let's hope there's a sequel - we all know after reading this book what we'd like to see next.
