Laughed so hard I suffered hysterical blindness...,

This review is from: Churchill: The Hollywood Years [DVD] (DVD)
This joyous romp pokes fun at the royals and the Hollywood tendency to re-jig history for the multiplex mob, sexing it up with a swaggering die-hard, top-gun Winston Churchill (Christian Slater) saving the day and bedding the princess(Neve Campbell) into the bargain.
Long wanted to see this, but stumbled upon it late one night on telly and enjoyed every moment, weeping tears of joy at some of the gags. Everyone's in it: Harry Enfield, Vic & Bob, Miranda Richardson, Leslie Phillips, Anthony Sher, etc. I think I read somewhere that Slater didn't get the joke at all, which is all to the good because he plays the part of ordinary American hero just right. The rest of the cast have a ball...
Might pall with frequent viewing, so buy a copy and give it a whirl every 6-12 months.
UPDATE: since writing the above, I've watched Churchill in the cold light of day, still sober, and it's a bit ropey when the viewer's not drunk or fourteen years old. A few cracking jokes, but a little over-reliant on swearing and bodily functions; ironically, it probably would've been better if it had been an American production.
