Great British Period Drama,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Atonement/Pride And Prejudice/Sense And Sensibility [DVD] (DVD)
Trying to collect all films directed by Ang Lee, I could have bought his Oscar winning 'Sense & Sensibility' separately and quite cheaply. I always look for box set alternatives, to eke out maximum value or get more films from a particular director/actor and this set came up on Amazon. This is the one with Kate Winslett, Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman.
I had rented 'Atonement' when the DVD came out and really liked it and so I don't mind playing that one again, sometime. Directed by Joe Wright, this is more adult, with a certificate 15 and is a lot darker than your average period drama. Keira Knightley gave a knockout performance, as did James McAvoy, both in career defining roles.
'Pride & Prejudice', I'd seen on TV even longer ago and it'd be good to refresh myself with that one. Also directed by Joe Wright, again with Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen plus the wonderful Dame Judi Dench.
The set I bought was a collector's metal box one. Whichever variant you go for, the three make ideal companions, but bear in mind that 'Atonement' may not suit the very young or very old. As such, it would make a lovely gift to any lover and appreciator of fine British period drama - films that us Brits can be proud of.

Could you please tell me if the Sense and Sensibility DVD in this box set is the Collector's Edition (with extras) or the previous regular edition? Thanks!

Tim Kidner says:
From what I can see (and safely presume) it's the standard edition as it would surely say if it were anything special and the extras list is only subtitles in a number of languages.
