4.0 out of 5 stars Familiar but Dragonforce still impress, 18 April 2012

This review is from: The Power Within (Audio CD)
If you were never a fan of Dragonforce, The Power Within probably won't change your mind, it's still full of lighting fast guitar solos, cheesy lyrics and amazing vocals but the addition of Marc Hudson's voice definitely adds a new shade to the album.

Dragonforce were clearly were looking for someone to not just fill ZP's shoes, but also to bring something new to the table, which Marc does fantastically. Some of the best tracks include, Cry Thunder, Fallen World, Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Storm.

Why 4 out of 5 stars? The album definitely feels like it's treading old ground, Dragonforce are still reusing lyrics lyrics from previous albums and the overall composition of a few tracks feels extremely familiar. Personally I wanted to hear more tracks like Cry Thunder, the classic power metal sound they were going for mixed with the fantastic vocals and guitar playing of Herman and Sam worked really well. That said the rest of the album is still top notch, the blazingly fast guitar solos, arcade sound interludes and epic song compositions are tighter than ever, making it some of the bands best work to date.

I'd definitely recommend seeing Dragonforce at one of their live shows, hearing the classics with Marc's own style at the 100 clubs was an amazing experience.

Dony waste your money paying to see dragon force live unless you want to waste your hard earned cash on watching a minimum of three crap sub par support bands scream all night and watch twelve year old kids jump around like there at play school all night and for for the majority or most of the evening , then when you give up hope dragonforce appear at the end with a mushy awfil sound , when its almost time for you to go home and almost miss your your tra in home at the end of the show leave early to catch your train and miss the end of dragon force because they ripped you off by making you stand all night watching support ofter support then taking your money and only playing one hour on the dot and not a minute more . Avoid this band live at all cost a complete rip iff . They done this to me twice now .Love the album though super musicians.

herman lee is still in the band and can easily play smoke-rings around kirk hammett, james hetfield, zack wyld, dave mustaine or any member of his band, destroy kerry king of slayer, and drop the jaws of malmstein, satriani, roth, qurion, owen, ian, and many others, even i KNOW being a closet guitarist myself i could/would never come close to his experties in talent, accuracy, speed and showmanship and for this alone, i praise the honorable Herman Lee as a japanese dimbag 1000 times over, no insult to dimebag whom i love equally.
