the teardrop loveliness of isabelle...,
This review is from: Rudolf Nureyev's La Bayadere [DVD] (DVD)
I have just ordered the royal ballet version of this, but I fear it will not compare, but I'l make do-I only have this on vhs video, but may well buy it on dvd all the same.Few, if any, ballets, are completely satisfying from start to finish ( save for le corsaire by the kirov)and this is in the top pantheon for this reason, mind you I have only seen about 23 ballets so I'm not a great expert.

Please dont make your mind up about the ROH version before you have seen it.Im sure you are correct in saying that this is a fine version,it was actually my first choice-but having read ALL of the reviews I chose the Royal Ballet version.Other reviewers have stated that the destruction of the temple scene is omitted, and that there are too many long shots and poor picture quality, which swung it for me.I am a regular buyer of ballet DVDs and will definately get around to buying this one(had Agnes Letestu been in this version wild horses would not have stopped me) it is on my list as your recommendation in third position to buy behind La Sylphide(music by Schneithoffer)and Napoli(which I have already received and played). Thanks for your reviews which I always read......

Many thanks Roger, I try and keep my reviews short and to the point and if I give something 5 stars I feel it genuinely deserves it. I'm stepping out the box now and urging you to buy the paris ballet version.

Well I must now admit to prefering the Paris version, you didn't let on that Agnes Letestu was in it though, had you done so I would have bought it much earlier, many thanks Roger.
