Very useful guide,
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Microsoft Windows 8 (Complete Idiot's Guides (Lifestyle Paperback)) (Paperback)
Like most people, Windows 8 left me a bit cold. The tile interface, I don't think was designed with non touch screen computing in mind. That aside, it's what we have to live with until 8.1 is readily available.
The 'idiots guide' is very good. It's starts from the very basic, with the 'Start screen' that presents once your machine has first booted. It takes you through, step by step, assuming a high level of ignorance, and brings you out the end, much more savvy than you went in. It has the added bonus that if you've bought a tablet with windows 8, it will take you through that as well.
It covers all the things most users would want to do. Internet, email, social media, video, music, pictures etc. Towards the end, 'customizing your desktop', 'staying safe' and 'recovering from problems'. The book is not encyclopedic in its coverage, but it has a friendly, humorous style and gives the confidence to deal with Windows 8. After using it myself, I now actually quite like Windows 8 and think it's quite cool. There are still things that bug me, like charm bars appearing when I don't want them to, but it's stuff I can live with.
If you're struggling with Windows 8 this book would be a good addition to your library! Recommended.
