This review is from: Iomega Prestige Portable Hard Drive - Superspeed USB3.0 - 500GB (Personal Computers)Updated November 2013:
I bought this in July 2011 for around £50 and updating this review over two years later I'm still reasonably happy with it.
+ It looks nice and feels well made
+ It's very compact
+ It's very quiet and you'd normally have to listen carefully to notice any noise
+ A single USB port has been sufficient to power it on every computer I have tried it on. But the supplied cable has two connectors just in case.
+ Performance seems pretty good, I've not benchmarked it but backing up from the USB 3.0 port on my NAS took a lot less time than it would have if the drive had been limited to USB 2.0 speeds
- The preinstalled encryption software was pretty annoying and I had to update it in order to be able to remove it. Luckily the whole process only took a few minutes.
- Yes, the USB cable can be awkward because of the bizarre shape of the standard Mini USB 3.0 connector. This is not an issue specific to this drive though, and I have never had any problems with it disconnecting.
