This is not going to be a long or analytical review, but I think that so good a version of Telemann's most recorded work deserves some mention. I've heard Musica Antiqua Koln, Musica Amphion and the Ensemble of the Golden Age on Naxos. I have not heard the recent Frieberg version which has received good reviews. Amphion and Golden Age are also rans, in my opinion. Some of this music needs some extra interpretative 'oomph' to prevent it sounding a tad bland. They don't have it. The Koln group give plenty of energy, and are remarkably skilled technicians, but I found their approach a bit slick. Harnoncourt is more idiosynctratic more earthy, and in places a lot more fun.
