Great lyricism and great technique,
This review is from: The Decca Years 1955-1975 (Audio CD)
What I like most about Kenneth McKellar is that balance between lyricism and technique, emotion and discipline. With McKellar it is never too much or too little, always just enough. Give the songs he sings to Pavarotti or Carreras, and they'll murder them in no time. His delivery is spotless; you can copy the words straight from the disk without a moment's hesitation. I like his consummate artistry and unassuming manner.
A pity that I never had the pleasure to see this man sing live. He had died a few months before I discovered him. We have his songs to remember him by.
I am not Scottish myself, but Kenneth McKellar is another great gift the Scots have given the world. They have given us so much to be thankful for.
