Stunning value for money and a great game to boot,
This review is from: Guild Wars Complete Collection (Video Game)
If you come to this game expecting WoW, you'll be disappointed. WoW isn't better than GW, they're just very different games. When thinking about GW, it's best to imagine it as a co-operative RPG, with an accessible but very deep and rewarding PvP system, which is kept seperate from the PvE campaigns (but your characters can get into it at any time).
Guild Wars has a lovingly crafted world and a suprisingly deep plot. Unlike WoW, it's not just a collection of quests, but a series of instanced missions which directly involve your character saving the world (several times), along with well-written characters. The graphics, suprisingly given their age, are still excellent, with a mixture of stylised landscapes and sharp textures making it look several shades better than most MMOs.
The build system is excellent, forcing you to specialise your character and combine skills for maximum effect (but you can change build at any time with no penalty). This creates literally tens of thousands of potential play styles, fuelling the hardcore PvP metagame. It's best to play this game with friends, but the guild systems and social functions make it easy to pick up teams for missions and quests (and suprisingly good AI henchmen and heroes are available any time).
Hardcore PvE grind/achievement fans will find solace in Hard Mode, dungeons and elite zones, and the numerous titles, which function like achievements; although some bestow small benefits on your character and your favorite one can be displayed below your name in towns. There's even a title for getting lots of other titles!
This complete collection includes all 3 campaigns and the smaller Eye of the North expansion pack; which at the very minimum gives you about a hundred hours of main-quest/mission content. If you immerse yourself in the world with multiple characters completing side-quests, hunting elite skills and visiting elite zones; or get into the fantastic PvP component, then this game could serve you well for a year or more.
