This review is from: Renaissance Transitions 4 (Audio CD)
When I first listened to this I was really underwhelmed. Dull, drab, lacking in tunes. A perfect mix of tracks that already sound the same achieves very little at first.
It drove me back to Transitions 3, another mix that I hadn't totally warmed to. In comparison with 4 then 3 sounded positively euphoric, active, interesting. As I listened to 3 over and over again I got sucked into it until I realised what an amazing mix it was. Some really, really nice crunchy, squelchy bits, atmospheric moments, gradual blends, tension and release, contrasts etc.
So then I listened to 4 again with my newly acquired tastes. I'm now totally hooked on it. It's a bit harder and menancing compared with 3, but it still has the tension, details and moments of beauty. I've been listening to nothing but transitions 1,2,3 & 4 for a few nights now.
