This review is from: The Human Division #5: Tales From the Clarke (Kindle Edition)
After the previous episode's detour to earth we're back in space for Episode 5 of The Human Division and back with CDF officer Wilson. This time however, the story also focuses on Captain Coloma of the diplomatic ship Clarke, damaged at the end of episode 1, and her crew. Its a nice expansion to the series cast of characters.
Not only does the story reveal what happened to the Clarke once it was damaged, it also moves some of the series' wider mysteries forward, even if it doesn't provide any answers to them.
Its a generally satisfying episode, and an improvement on #4. It feels like a proper short story, with a definite structure. There's intrigue to lend some excitement, and the whole story is laced with Scalzi's usual wit and plenty of banter between characters. I doubt its enough to convince the neigh-sayers that the series, with its episodic nature, is worth another shot, but it should more than satisfy those who are sticking with it.
