One of the worst adaptation of Austen's novels...,
This review is from: Mansfield Park [DVD] (DVD)
I really didn't like this adaptation of Mansfield Park. I couldn't find anything from the novel.
As mentionned by L.Jones it is badly cast and Billy Piper is not at all suitable for the role of Fanny Price.
Mrs Norris is "too nice" in this version. She should have been cruel to the heroin and I felt nothing of it. It is more of a Barbara Cartland sort of thing and a soap opera during Jane Austen period like B. Raval said.
What I couldn't stand about it was the mistake on the play "Lover's vows". Fanny is not supposed to be in it when her uncle arrives. This symbol made by Jane Austen showing that only Fanny is not sinful was not respected in the film. And I would have liked to see more about the cross and chain symbol business too.
One star I think is quite generous but justified for Edmund. I agree with the other comments on him. He had nice eyes which (easily) expressed feelings and touched the viewer. But tha'ts about it, really...
This was not good enough to tempt me. But it probably is tolerable (just quite...) I suppose for the people who haven't read the book.
