1.0 out of 5 stars Very weak - rushed, shallow - yeuk, 20 July 2011

This review is from: The Diamond Throne (The Elenium) (Paperback)
Many years ago I enjoyed the Belgeriad books (glossing over the "nicey, nicey" sentimental vomit bits) - so looking for a light escapist read I bought this trilogy to read over the summer.
The characters are poorly developed, callous, uncaring and yet often overwhelmingly sentimental and inconsistent. They experience crassly written horrors with hardly a flinch and then react massively to far less dreadful situations: and then indulge in violent and callous acts for no good reason before turning all gushy and sentimental over their little mother. Utterly vomit making!
These have to have been rushed and written for reasons other than the joy of writing - very poor and some of the worst written books I have ever read.

I also read the Belgariad way back. Decades ago in my case. Started to read this again and am really enjoying the read. Easy to get immersed in and just go along with. Perhaps you would enjoy doing the same?
Mind you there has been no mention of vomit as yet. You do seem to rather like that word.

Stair says:
Hi, well I did finish the books, as the story and plot is good and it COULD have been really well done - but the writing wasn't up to it. Perhaps this was the editors fault? - It's the lack of balance, over-reaction to some elements and great heroics, followed by a callous disregard for the lives of others. I found I disliked the "goodies" as much as the baddies. I think the work was rushed and sub-standard.
However, to each their own.
