crepetastically great music!,
This review is from: Greatest & Latest (Audio CD)
The album consists of a fine selection of showaddywaddy's hit singles; a couple of previously unreleased cover versions and two newer, self-penned songs. This will probably only appeal to existing fans who want to hear how the re-recording of the band's famous songs have been realised. However, this would also be a fantastic jumping on point for new fans as the quality of the work done here is mostly outstanding.
As the band always had a rep for judicious choice of material to release as singles, it is a joy to hear new recordings of those excellent songs. Of particular note, 'Sweet Music', 'Heavenly', 'When', 'Three Steps to Heaven' and 'A Little Bit of Soap' shine brightly.
The album's highlight is undoubtedly 'Runaway Girl', written by Dave Bartram. The lyrics, melody and instrumentation on this song easily matches and, may surpass, any other self-penned song the band have ever done. This would have been a huge hit if the song had been around during the band's commercial prime.
If you are a curious new showaddywaddy listener, then this is definitely the cd to act as an introduction. I just hope it becomes a bit easier to obtain in the future as it is a real gem, easily better than the greatest hits packages.
