Stunning and Unsurpassed Electronic Landmark,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Animals (Audio CD)
At the time of writing this album is only available from third-party sellers for silly money (£20 plus!), but having said that it's probably still worth the investment.
Minilogue make quite simply the best deep tech-house and experimental electronic music you are ever likely to hear. The kind of depth, thought, skill, and artistry that went into making 'Animals' used to be exclusively associated with the monster groups of rock such as Pink Floyd or Radiohead. Artist albums made by dance music producers rarely approach this quality, except perhaps Boards of Canada or Aphex Twin (altho Richard James has never made a long-player as consistent or meticulously structured).
Both discs are continuous, but not like a Dj mix; every segue seems to use a different technique for getting from one track to the next. The first disc is generally dance orientated tech-house, while the second flows thru ambient and experimental downbeats. Both demonstrate a real gift for organic 'feel', breaking away from the obvious 4/4 counts and signatures, and tracks develop in unusual, imaginative ways. Headphone listeners will also appreciate the amazing, visceral textures of the sound; crackling, hissing, and buzzing have never felt so musical.
The whole album really is a delicious smorgas-bord for the ears.
