This review is from: Peace In The Valley - The Complete Gospel Recordings (Audio CD)
Elvis was a great Gospel singer. His approach was personal and never conventional. Well, this can be said of many Gospel singers...
This record contains lots of Elvis' recordings, three CDs and about 60 tracks. This makes it a very good value if you want to buy lots of songs for a really small price.
There are great songs in this record, (Joshua in Jericho, Peace in the Valley, Working in the building...) There is small drawback, however: this is a collection of diverse material. Some of the recordings are not so great, some of them are simply scraps of songs that can't be heard properly. Some are fragments of jam sessions of Elvis and his friends (the Imperials, I think) between recordings.
This, of course, can give you an insigth of Elvis' recording process, of his personal relationship to other musicians, and to his aproach to music.
If you are an Elvis connoiseur this should have a place in your disk collection, but if you simply want to hear his voice and the gospel, then you should buy some other record, more expensive but better edited.

I do not agree with you here,"There is a drawback, however: the recordings are not so great".WHAT IS CORRECT IS,"SOME,A FEW OF THE RECORDINGS ARE NOT SO GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" These are the amateur, rare, live etc. and one does not have to listen to these, they are included to live up to the title,THE OTHER TRACKS ARE ALL DIGITALLY REMASTERED TO WHAT AT THE TIME OF ISSUE WAS STATE OF THE ART."COMPLETE" means just that,it contains everything, exactly what it says on the tin,WARTS AN' ALL.

As I said in my comment, this is a mixture: some recordings are great, but I could hardly hear some of the other recordings. This was only a warning to guys like me who want the straight thing. Of course, this is collection is great if you want to deepen your knowledge of Elvis and his work, but some pieces, at least in my music box can barely be heard, so for me they are more a collector's matter. As you point out, they are not to be listened to.
