SUPERB ACCOUNT OF D-DAY.,
This review is from: The Longest Day [DVD] (DVD)
i bought this film yesterday and had not seen it before ,but i was really suprised how much i enjoyed it.its easy to see where saving private ryan came from so many scenes are similar ,the action sequences are great in this film but obviously not gory like in saving private ryan .
it takes about an hour showing the build up to the conflict from both sides then its all action ,a brilliant addition to any film collection.

What The Dickens? says:
Yes... I would expect it to be similar to 'Private Ryan', given that the opening scenes depict the same events in history. As for the amount of gore, 'Private Ryan' probably got it right, but does anyone really want to be reminded or told about the horrors of war in such graphic reality? The only reason I'd give marks for the gore is in the superb technical ability of the special effects; make-up artists. When you have tasted, smelled and felt those realities, (Albeit in a different conflict) that's enough to last a lifetime; and sadly it does.
