Another hits collection with a great DVD of videos .,
This review is from: Blondie Greatest Hits: Sight & Sound [CD + DVD] (Audio CD)
This is the who knows how many Blondie collection this makes but this one is a bit different because you finally get a great DVD of their videos that are not held together with some stupid cabbie ruining the beginning of the videos. This is what should have been put out when EMI put out the Greatest Hits collection in 2002 but was not. In the US Capitol (the US EMI since in America EMI no longer exits) put out a similar cd/dvd of Pat Benatar hits and videos and Tina Turner as well. In the UK Blondie and EMI put this collection out because they are on tour this November and Decemeber and this collection will come out in the US next year before Blondie is inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame . So far in the Uk it has done quite well.
So why buy a new HITS collection from Blondie. Well if you put on a new picture that I don't have on the cover I will buy it .Well this cover to the Sight & Sound edition of hits is from the photo shoot that came from the Plastic Letters shoot. If you read the Making Tracks book Debbie Harry talks about the photos taken with the pillow case and red tape as an outfit. Yes Debbie Harry is wearing a pillow case with red tape on it and makes it look so cool. When you buy the cd look under where the cd/dvd are held and you will more closely of what I am talking about. If someone can take a simple everyday bed linen item and use it for clothes and look increbible doing it then you know Debbie Harry is in a league of her own.
Now onto the music. The cd comes with basically every hit Blondie had and features 2 new tracks. I know most people go on at how good "Rapture Riders " is but it is more Jim Morrison than Debbie Harry. But it still works nonetheless. For me the best new track is the "In The Flesh" which is a brand new version with new vocals and a electro vibe too it. I know people are not liking it but trust me it works so well it is scary. The remix for "Good Boys" is the US only PROMO release by Sanctuary records that was issued to Club DJ's after the Norty Cotto US mixes were a top ten dance hit. There is a single mix to the Blow Up mix as well as a much better (Demonic Electronic Mix)that should have been put on here instead but the fact that this rare 12" mix is now available should be a collector's item. Plus what can you say to hearing "Call Me" , "One Way Or Another", "Sunday Girl" , "End To End" -- which would have been the 3rd single if Epic and Sanctuary would have gotten enough faith in their last album to keep trying for hits -- and "Maria" which is such an amazing song. All that is missing from this collection is the long promised to be issued "Studio 54" from 1997 that still sounds cool today. Oh well maybe in a few more years and another Blondie hits cd it will finally come to the light.
The DVD-- now you can watch Blondie's videos from the beginning to the last video "Good Boys" . Still the whole video to the other 8 songs off Eat To The Beat could have been issued as well as "Nothing Is Real But The Girl" or the remix videos for "Atomic" and "Heart Of Glass" could have been put on but this is a small complaint. Now you can see them all in their entirety and enjoy the face of Debbie Harry and the craziness of Clem Burke.
Overall this collection of DVD and Cd is worth the price. And hopefully when it comes to the US it will does as well. Anything with Debbie Harry is a five star event. A++++++
