Music by a very sensitive boy,
This review is from: Howells: Piano Concertos 1 & 2 / Penguinski (Audio CD)
Strange music! Listen to these two very different piano concertos and wonder what Howells vision could have been.
He seemed to have no style, no real inspiration - he starts writing busy and could have called this stylish - goes modern when asked for it (Allegro's are called 'hard and bright') and his music sounds like 100% transpiration.
But, it is very interesting music if you like Strawinsky, Bartok, Brahms, R. Strauss, Stanford, Britten. Everytime the pianist and orchestra turn a page you hear another composer so this disc is like a play: who can I recognize now and now and now.........
Write down the influences and send me an e-mail please!
At last, don't worry, it is a very nice disc!
