Really great book, wonderfully told and a must for anybody with either a genuine or passing interest on the tapestry of Cork's history.

Interesting, I wonder does it include Bernie Murphy the sandwich board man who once went for election as Lord Mayor of Cork. Apparently back in the early eighties a prominent Cork City Councillor rebuked several of Cork's solicitors for been a waste of space. The solicitors (led by a John Lennon) fought back by stating that any fool with a bit of money behind them could get onto the city council. They decided to prove it by putting Bernie forward as a candidate in the local elections and everyone voted for him. I think a trip to San Francisco was part of the twinning ceremony between the too cities. Legend has it that Bernie spent the best part on ten grand on hookers and cocaine.....and wasted the rest.
