Finally Anna Campbell delivers for me! I've always known she can write but her plots have tended to be a bit dark and sordid and the h is often treated badly by the H. This latest novel is much more uplifting - very romantic and passionate with a great H and h. It's also very witty and is packed full of humour.
10 years ago, Lady Antonia was ruined by a man and cast off by her father the earl. She is now disguised as Miss Smith and working as a chaperone for a distant cousin. However, the father of the cousin ruined the Marquess of Ranelaw's illegitimate sister and he has vowed revenge. His plan is to seduce and ruin the young cousin. Antonia is determined to protect her cousin from the Marquess. Antonia has first hand experience of how awful it is to be ruined by a man and she will not let it happen to her cousin. Antonia and the Marquess clash - lots of chemistry and super hot sex scenes that are very romantic.
Antonia and the Marquess are both strong characters. Their dialogue is lively and original and the development of their attraction believable. The only reason I have not given this 5 stars is because I would have liked at least one ball where Antonia has taken back her rightful place in society and can show off the beauty she has had to hide for years.
This is the first AC novel that I am keeping to read again. I really hope her next novel is as good.
