This review is from: Ice Age (Hardcover)
I was looking for a book that would summarise what the Ice Age was - what the Earth would have looked like before, during and after the Ice Age, the extent of the ice sheets at different times, and the impact of the alternately advancing and receding ice sheets on ecology and evolution.
This is not that book. And the claim that the book includes "startling new material on...human evolution...and how [the Ice Age] made us human" is exaggerated - in fact this is treated with a few broad sweeps in the concluding couple of pages.
Instead, "Ice Age" is a handy summary of developments in scientific method which revealed that an Ice Age had indeed occurred and the mechanisms through which it has occurred. For example, there is discussion of how the tilt of the Earth's axis was calculated, the development of ocean core sampling techniques etc.
If that is what you are looking for, then it's a very handy little book.
