Attractive Edition of a Classic,

This review is from: Joseph Andrews (Penguin English Library) (Paperback)
The texture and style of this book is in line with the rest of the Penguin English Library series and so is of the same high quality that that entails. The texture of the cover soft and almost rubbery which allows for greater protection of the book itself while not being either a hardback or by having a protective sleeve. There are some notes regarding the novel in the back of the book which help explain certain references within the text itself, but this is primarily a copy for casual reading. The story itself is based upon the serial novel 'Pamela' by Samuel Richardson which Fielding directly mocked in his novella 'Shamela' as well as to a lesser degree in 'Joseph Andrews'. The novel stands on its own well and this is a good edition to get of the text. However, if you're interested in reading the novel as a reaction to the morals and values which were championed by the incredibly popular at the time 'Pamela', then you can also purchase a copy of that novel within the same series as this one.
