Matapan- another view,
This review is from: The Battle of Matapan 1941: The Trafalgar of the Mediterranean (Paperback)
This is the third book I have read about Matapan after having read Harry Plevy's Battleship Sailors and Iain Ballantyne's Warspite.
This book gives more insight into the events leading up to Matapan and the role of the Enigma decodings in providing fore-knowledge of the Italian Fleets intentions. I have a particular interest in these accounts as my grandfather was the Warspites Director Layer and pulled the trigger to lay the first broadsides into Fiume. His personal accounts of the battle were written down and came to light only in the last couple of years so it was interesting to read the published accounts side by side with those of the man who probably had the best view of all.
