A Disappointing Read,
This review is from: The Tudor Wife (Paperback)Having long been interested in Elizabeth I,I saw this book on the corner of the book display in my local WH Smith last year and decided to give it a try.
What a soap opera of a book!Bawdy sections, elaborate explanations of Tudor goings-on,intrigue,far-fetched cameos(Cromwell's dalliance with the main character of the book,Lady Jane Parker,a pitiful figure),depictions of torture, and a general uneasy feel to the story made me wrinkle my nose in despair.
This could have been a great story, but Ms Purdy didn't seem to know how to tell it.The book ended up being a minestrone of jumbled facts. The best parts were the descriptions of the beautiful Tudor clothes worn by the characters, but otherwise this book has nothing to recommend it,really.
One for the charity shop,forsooth.
