If you have bought any of the previous guides in this series you will know what to expect-a light reasonably sturdy book which will fit easily into your bag or coat pocket. Inside you will find a range of information on Istanbul including a set of itineraries which can be completed on foot in 1,2 or 3 days with supporting maps and pretty up-to-date advice about restaurants and cafes including indications of price and opening times. There are plenty of basic maps although the serious traveller will want something more detailed. There is also some sound information on transportation, services and where to shop for a wide range of products. Where the guide falls short is that nothing is covered in great detail and if you want an extended entry on the Blue Mosque or Hagia Sophia for example you will need to look elsewhere. This observation really underlines the two kinds of people who will find this book useful: the tourist who wants a brief overview of the sights and services on offer in a handy format and second the seasoned traveller who will slip this guide into his rucksack for the day having already read more detailed preparatory material before his trip or in the hotel. If you fall into either of this two groups as most of us do, then this book is well worth the modest outlay.
