3.0 out of 5 stars Beware if you have sensitive skin!, 21 Mar. 2012
This review is from: Grow Your Own Drugs: Fantastically Easy Recipes for Natural Remedies and Beauty Treats (Hardcover)
This is a lovely book, but please be wary. I had a bad adverse reaction to the Eczema cream on p 56 - probably due to the addition of Vit C powder. If it had just been a normal cream recipe, I would probably have patch tested, but as it was specifically for eczema, I didn't and had to jump back in the shower due to major stinging! I felt a bit disappointed. However, the mix of Neal's Yard emulsifying wax and beeswax works well, and I have come up with a very simple recipe for an emollient which works really well for me and might benefit others with sensitive skin (works out a lot cheaper than buying Allergenics and similar top quality plant emollients). Here is my Happy Bunny Eczema Cream (very few ingredients = less chance of a reaction!):- 8 TBSP boiled purified water 2 TBSP cold pressed oil (I use hemp seed) 4 TSP emulsifying wax 8 pieces of beeswax (Neal's Yard mail order or stores) 1 TBSP glycerine - follow instructions in James W's book on p 56 except to leave out all the infusion bit and I also add the glycerine after I've melted the wax/oil. I boil the water in the kettle once have melted the other ingredients. Keep stirring the cream and it will thicken (promise) as it cools - patience is needed. A chopstick is good for stirring. Make sure all utensils and pots are very clean. You could add essential oils (check for recommended quantities in books on the subject and be aware some people can react to certain oils, so patch test). Quick and easy!
