A stunning work of political history.,
This review is from: The Origins of Political Order: From Prehuman Times to the French Revolution (Hardcover)This dazzling book confirms Fukuyama as one of the most interesting, erudite, political thinkers writing today. Not one to be limited by genre, Fukuyama draws on ideas from disciplines as diverse as geography, anthropology, and economics in building his audacious theory.
Fukuyama's central thesis is that political order rests on three pillars - a strong state, democracy, and the rule of law - and that political thinkers have a tendency to champion one of the three pillars at the expense of the other two. By forcing us to examine all three as mutually interdependent, he casts an entirely new light on the way in which we might think about the geopolitical order.
Often controversial, but never boring, ignore this book at your peril.
