A sudden nose-dive in quality from the first two albums,
This review is from: ENTERTAINMENT (Audio CD)
I'm a big fan of Fischerspooners #1 and Odyssey albums. I'm also aware that multiple listens allow many of the songs to grow and grow, revealing subtle nuances and layers that let the albums become long-staying favourites. So I gave Entertainment five listens before writing this review - and it never managed to become interesting or anywhere near as enjoyable as the first two albums.
Whilst at times it feels and sounds like typical Fischerspooner (Casey's singing, the beats, the occasional unpredictable divergence into a harmonising variation) it somehow doesn't have the same soul or energy. We Are Electric and Door Train Home are my favourite tracks, but not up to Odysseys standards. The rest of the tracks I found quite dull. Danse en France is simply horrible, and I have no idea what possessed them to release it as a single.
The album reminds me slightly of Daft Punks third album, being a 10-track disappointment following two far superior albums.
