This review is from: Tarot Talismans: Invoke the Angels of Tarot (Paperback)
Tarot Talismans the new book by Chic and Tabatha Cicero, opens a whole new dimension in the use of the Tarot. While there are many books, which explain how to use the Tarot as a tool for divination, here we have one which uses the pictorial images of the cards themselves as ritual tools for personal change and transformation. The book begins with a discussion of what a Talisman is, and the magical rational behind it. Then it moves on to explain spreads both to bring new forces into your life (the Triangle of Art), and to help banish unwanted influences (the Pentagram). These ideas are derived from the Western magical tradition, but used in a lively modern way. A number of specimen rituals are given.
Part 2 of the book goes on to explain the powers behind the Talismanic use of the Tarot Cards. These are the God names, and Archangels and Angels, which are associated with each card. This is linked to the Qabbalah and the use of the Hebrew Alphabet, as it is taught within the Golden Dawn tradition of Magic. Once again the authors begin with the basics, so no previous knowledge is needed. They then go on to explain the idea of `telesmatic images' the development of magical images from the Hebrew Names. This is an aid to visualisation of magical energies, used in the Talismans in part 1. The book also deals with the making of sigils or magical signatures belonging to the angels to be invoked, the use of magic squares and other traditional Golden Dawn Talismanic magic Methods.
Throughout the book are many tables and illustrations explaining the ideas in the text. These include examples of talismanic spreads, with line drawings of cards used from different decks. In part 2 there are also drawn examples of visualisations of some of the Angelic beings. This makes the whole process much easier to follow. While it is true, that a student of the Golden Dawn would recognise some of this material, from other writings. This book gathers it together in a very useful way, with plenty of explanations, which will help make this area of magic easier to understand. At the same time it is also comprehensive. The examples given will encourage you to do your own work
A good book for the novice, and a mine of information for the more advanced magician.
