'subdue and rule',
This review is from: MANLY DOMINION: In a Passive-Purple-Four-Ball World (Paperback)
This book is a relatively fast read with it being split up into 31 very short chapters (one per day for a month if you like to take is slow).
It centers on calling men to be more decisive, pro-active and to 'subdue and rule' (Gen 1:27-28) in their lives in contrast to the passive negligence than often characterizes many men today. It does not focus intensely on the differing roles of men and women but is geared more towards calling men to a 'manly dominion' attitude that takes responsibility and gets to work.
The book is very practical giving examples and applications from all walks of life. There is a particularly good bunch of chapters that focus on knowing God's guidance and making decisions. Although he writes as a cessationist most responsible charismatics (e.g. Piper/Grudem) would wholeheartedly agree with his argument that cautions against giving undue credence to impressions/hunches etc.
Overall this book is not so much about the biblical roles of men and women (although this is touched on a little) as much as it is about shaking men out of passivity to take up their responsibilities like a man. He does touch on much biblical material that relates to what men are called to do though.
