Paul's Best Solo Effort In A Good While,
By A Customer
This review is from: Flaming Pie (Audio CD)
When I first picked up this cd I was amazed to see Jeff Lynne's name as a co-producer on some of the tracks. Paul had just come off the 'Anthology' mixing sessions as well as working with Jeff on 'Free As A Bird' and 'Real Love' with Ringo and George. This cd starts off with 'The Song We Were Singing' with Paul playing the upright bass once played by, Bill Black from Elvis Presley's original backing band. It's a nice touch to the song. 'The World Tonight' being the first single from the album has great guitar work and and interesting vocal bit. 'Someday' features a great orchestral arrangement from Sir George Martin and nice spanish guitar work from Paul. 'Heaven On A Sunday' has Paul's son, James playing the lead guitar with mom Linda on backing vocals making this song a family affair. 'Beautiful Night' features Paul and Ringo together on bass and drums respectively as well as Ringo singing the end bit of the song as well as another great orchestral arrangement by Sir George Martin. This was Paul's last album offering before Linda's death. A bittersweet epitaph to Linda.
