The parable for the 21st Century,

What more can be said? This is the dystopian epic against which all others are measured. Orwell was nearing the end of his life as he produced this book and he personally felt that some of the wordcraft could have been better - he had to hurry the editing along. However as a reader of this tale, fast approaching 60 years since publication it cannot be more relevant to modern society. Just compare the work Winston performs at the Ministry of Truth with the modern-day Internet and our increased reliance on a source of information that can be easily modified. It's scary to see how many parallels such as this can be drawn up with modern life. Orwell had a vision and anyone with an interest in society, politics, economics or just how we live today should read this novel to see how modernity was viewed from the 1940s.
