So Mr Abercromie has decided to expand on his fantasy land, and head out west. A brave move but as readers of his books will know conventional he isnt. Only author I know who has made me like the baddies and see the (so called) heros for what they are.
This could have bombed and gone wrong in so many ways. After all when you have a setting your fans like then conventional wisdom says stay with it and take the money. But this works so much so i read the thing in 3 days and for me thats fast. Now I have to wait for a long time for the next book, and thats a shame because I dont want to wait.
If you havent read any of his books before then you can start here, its a stand alone story and not part of a ongoing never ending (GRRRR martin) saga. Though fans of Joe will have references etc (no spoilers from me) that they will understand and be glad about.
Its a well written, brilliantly told tale that moves along at a great pace. Its bloody and the violence is brutal, after all its a lawless land out west. Is it as good as his other stuff...YES IT IS.
Buy it, its one of the best Fantasy tales you will read in many a long year. If your new read it then go and get the rest (Heros deserves a mention).
Just hurry witht he next one PLEEEEEEAAAAASSSEEEE Mr Abercrombie.
