5.0 out of 5 stars hawaii and nature in a natural habitat for sexual awakening, 13 Feb. 2009
This review is from: The Blue Lagoon [DVD] (DVD)
BASED ON A BOOK BY DOUGLAS DAY STEWART -

The movie studies the natural habitat and its progression on two shipwrecked children as a couple who survive and thrive extremely well together on a tropical island .

Their playful reef adventures lead to teenage squabbles and finally the first taste of love itself which is exquisitely revisited on screen .

They live together in isolation as a modern day Adam and Eve and discover love without being taught it in a very spontaneous and natural manner

The affects af both being uneducated and not tempted by the media of the modern world is a very interesting concept and yet very provoking too .

The movie is a celebration of nature from the sea life ,reef adventures ,pike fishing and diving waterfalls on the island and the actors perform very naturally without any conciousness as if they are in the real environment rather then in front of a camera and film unit .

The theme of survival with nature being omnipotent and man being innovative through nature itself is well executed .

The dialogues are simple and uninhibited as indeed two young cousins without a tutor will have little linguistic abilities to talk like in 'Moby dick' or the prosaic poetry of Stevenson but the island of Oahu in Hawaii and the beach scenes including the underwater footage is too good to be true and is a must -see.

Both the actors deliver though the movie was ragged by critics but it is supposed to be an innocent discovery of natural human progression through chilhood into adolescence and it achieves that rather very deftly in the hands of the director Randal Kaiser .

The small part played by Leo mc kern and the few trivia of modern society in the forest beach habitat are reminders of the metaphorical human baggage and how little you need to be happy and content .

It is rather a surprisingly simple and luscious visual delight from the factory of hollywood with excellent technical production values
