Lets just say 'not great'!,
This review is from: First Daughter [DVD] (DVD)
Although I hate to admit it nothing makes me go gooey inside like a typical chick flick.
There is always a chance that when you see this kind of rom com it will fall on its face because it is such a familiar formula. Unfortunatly this is what happens in 'First Daughter'. I am not a Katie Holmes hater but I have to admit her performance was wooden and unemtional, the part demanded a certain amount of the stiff upper lip, fish out of water attitude but Holmes created a persona an audience couldn't click with, which is a crucial component of this kind of film.
I was disappointed to say the least after watching this film and felt quite cheated out of the 15 quid or so I had forked out for it. Though the storyline has potential the feeble performance from Holmes and her co-stars meant that I found it rather tedious over all. My advice to anyone interested in watching this kind of film is to buy 'Chasing Liberty' which I enjoyed immensely. Light hearted humour and stellar perfomances from both Mandy Moore and Matthew Goode (excellent eye candy btw) and an extremely similar but much better executed plot it is streaks ahead of the catastrophe that is 'first daughter'.
