Buffalo Linkstation Duo,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Buffalo Linkstation Duo 1TB High Performance Multimedia Shared Raid Network Storage ( NAS ) (Personal Computers)
Had this about a month now and seems to work perfectly. Had an old linkstation that this replaced. Data throughput on a gigabit network whilst file copying a large file (Gigabit Network) on that was around 7MB per second. The new Linkstation Duo is around 28MB per second, so a great improvement.
Generally feels very responsive, for instance my .PST file for Outlook is stored on it and Outlook opens much quicker than it did before.
The Nas was delivered with Firmware V1.34, there is version 1.37 available on the Buffalo Support site but don't be tempted to upgrade is you want to use the Power saving facilities as it breaks it (the Nas will power down but will not wake back up). Confirmed with Buffalo that this is a known problem but had to jump through some hoops to roll it back.
Wake up time from power off to usability is quite slow (around 3 mins), whilst not the end of the world be aware if you are using the 'power down when nothing is connected' facility this can be a pain, also when using IE8 and selecting the web management page, the logon box does not appear and you have to refresh the page 3 or 4 times before it appeared. Not sure if this affects other browsers.
The Web management page is rather slow and can seem very sluggish at times but again this is not a deal breaker and the plus points outweigh the minus ones.
