This review is from: One Young Man The simple and true story of a clerk who enlisted in 1914, who fought on the western front for nearly two years, was severely wounded at ... and is now on his way back to his desk. (Kindle Edition)
Well crafted simple story of the life of a normal young man who enlists for WW1. The story follows his trials and tribulations with his friends and the way they deal with the brutal reality of life at the front. This is simple fare with no gung-ho heroes or nasty villains. The story is mainly told in extracts from his letters home. He spends a lot of time extolling the virtues of the YMCA which seems to be everywhere in the story.
This is unlikely to give you any serious insight into the history of the war. However, it does give you a feel of what it may have been like for a young lad. Not for serious historians.
