This review is from: Dr. Marten's 3989, Unisex-Adult Lace-Up Flats (Shoes)
Been a fan of Doc M's for many years since my school days. OK, so you always knew you'd go through hell with new ones to start with but that they would always soften and mould to your feet with patience and time and become very comfortable.
I had a pair of this style some years ago and wore them out, I wanted another pair but Doc Martens seemed to stop making this style.
Having read some of the reviews from people saying how uncomfortable they found them until broken in I looked for hints/tips on how to break them in without them breaking my ankles and feet.
The hints and tips I found I have followed and I can honestly say that aside form being quite stiff at the moment they have not rubbed at all and I am finding them comfortable.
To start with I spent a little time gently rubbing the backs of the shoes to soften the leather and carefully folding the backs over into the shoe.
I then wore them indoors for about an hour to get them warm and then applied polish to soften the leather outside. Since then I've worn then in the office for 2 days straight and they are already breaking and softening up.
I also wore thicker than normal socks to pack them out a bit more and stretch the leather.
I have high hopes for these shoes and so far they have not disappointed. I will spend the weekend wearing them about the house and am confident that come Monday I can wear them to work, at work and home again.
Lastly, if you like a nice mirror like shine these are the shoes for you with Kiwi Parade Gloss polish they shine up brilliantly and look really smart.
I'd recommend these to anyone and say don;t be put off by reviews that say they are painful to break in, I am sure they are if you wear them out of the box and head straight out the door in them for the day. I followed simple tips and feel I have overcome this (lets face it) unwanted side effect of wearing them new.
They are traditional Doc M shoes, sturdy, well made comfortable (or they will be after a bedding in period) and durable.
