From Acland to Young,
This review is from: South West Family Histories (British genealogical bibliographies) (Paperback)
This book was published in 1998 by the Federation of Family History Societies. It comprises a bibliography of books and essays about families based in the south west of England, which in this case is defined as Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset, and Wiltshire.
So, for instance, if we take the first entry - Acland - we have three books on various aspects of the Acland family listed here, as well as the National Trust guidebook to Killerton House (the guidebook itself being a virtual history of the family); two entries of contributions on the Aclands in the journal `Devon & Cornwall Notes & Queries'; and an entry relating to a paper printed in the `Transactions of the Devonshire Association'. The next entry - Adams - features three articles on some of the Adams families of both Somerset and Cornwall. And so on.
There are about hundred pages of these references, so the genealogist is bound to find something of relevance to any family history that impinges on these south western counties. For instance, I found good references to the Pascoe and Toy families of Cornwall, and the Rossiter family of Devon and Dorset. But, of course, many other family names have no entry, so it is equally possible that this book will be of no use at all to some.
