3.0 out of 5 stars The cassette doesn't turn itself off!, 2 Mar. 2010
By
This review is from: Roberts RC9907 3-BAND Radio Cassette Recorder with LW/MW/FM Timer (Electronics)
I bought this item specifically for the timer recording function on the cassette recorder, only to get home several hours after the end of the recording time to discover that the cassette was humming and clicking away to itself because there is NO auto stop facility. How on earth can a manufacturer make such a product? It's such a basic function, it's ALMOST an implied term that it exists. Other than this annoyance, the product is lightweight and I really like the fact that I can tune the radio manually rather than having some awful 'seek' function that never finds what I want.

Snap, Anita - mine doesn't stop the tape at the end of the recording (or playing) either. I bought it for the same reason as you did - the timer recording function! I assumed mine was faulty but never got round to returning it so now just use it as a bedside radio.... Don't know whether to trust it enough to fork out for another one.

Lillian - Anita doesn't mention auto-reverse, just auto stop when the end of the tape is reached.

I would just like to add that this product is definitely supposed to have auto-stop: mine stops straight away, not just in Play or Record, but also Wind and Rewind: not all sets of this type do this.

Well, I guess Anita & I have been the unlucky ones - I still use mine as a radio, but despite giving it "one more chance" every now & then, the tape does not auto-stop in any mode, grrrrrrr........
